Blurb (from the jacket):
Potluck is a collection of short stories and reflections by a group of writers who came together after attending Creative Writing Courses by Renu Balakrishnan at Xavier's Institute of Communications, Mumbai.
Working mothers, single women, a Catholic priest and a Hindu monk, executives and yes, even newlyweds; it's a diverse group that has brought out this collection. Written during office hours, travelling Mumbai trains, while the baby slept and the spouse snored, Potluck took shape. Over years of writing, re-writing and mutual critiquing.
In Potluck you will find a variety of styles and writing; first person accounts fiction, travel and mystery pieces that make it an experience to savour.
My take on the book:
Basically it is a bundle of 26 widely distinctive stories from 13 authors.
There are no common theme for the stories. No common aspects between them. Only that the authors had written stories that they had stumbled upon and critiqued by the entire group.
Had it been an ordinary random anthology collection from some author, I doubt it would have been this awesome. Rather every story printed in this book is critiqued and re-critiqued by every member of the group - seriously, you must check out the varying people of the group mentioned in the blurb.
Maybe it is the repeated critiquing part, or the general talent of the authors, which had made the book a worthwhile read. A pleasant one with a great deal of tinge of fascination to it.
List of Authors (just a tribute to them):
Aby Sam Thomas
Beatrice Rao
Bhavini Merchant - Dayal
Himali Kothari
Janki Thackersey
Manish Goel
Marija Sres
Myron J Pereira
Renu Balakrishnan
Richa S Chatterjee
Rina Metha
Sanjay Bhatnagar
Sarbani Sengupta
