I don't have much expertise in the field of archaeology, so I could just read it like a tourist.
For a archaeology, I must say, the language of the book was pretty simple. It is mostly layman's language and the entire Elephanta region is illustrated verbally. I could almost imagine the entire place by the book.
The photographs were very clear and good. Thankfully, they are in colour. Otherwise, it would have been a great back drop for the book and the book would've lost its own purpose.
Overall, it was a fine book with very much details about Elephanta and its surrounding and its history and the plan of the temple. But strictly it is no tourist guide. It is more informative about the structure and heritage of the sight than for tourism.
